Keywords:

Professional adaptation is a central process in the development of school psychologists’ professional competence because it helps new practitioners move from academic preparation to effective, school-based performance. The literature shows that adaptation is strengthened by supervision, mentoring, role clarification, collaborative consultation, and sustained professional learning, while weak support systems can delay competence development and reduce service quality. This article reviews the adaptation process in relation to professional competence and proposes institutional mechanisms that support successful transition into practice.
